Autumn 2020 – Spring 2022

A look behind the scenes of the R&D

Having worked in a care home, Christina has long been captivated by this world of extraordinary individuals and their forgotten stories. They are places of such comedy and tragedy, where jokes of lost false teeth sit alongside painful goodbyes.

‘Beyond Caring’ is a new play telling the fictional stories of Queenie, Alex and Elaine – a resident, a carer and a relative – as their lives entwine and they confront the complexity of getting old. Set in a care home in early March 2020, it asks timely and important questions about the way older people are cared for and how those doing the caring are being valued and supported. It is inspired by interviews with residents, carers and relatives, as well as conversations with academics, social workers and managers.

Following an informal sharing of the script in January 2022 and great feedback, plans are underway to tour the play in Autumn 2023.
